Moths can be a real nuisance, however they don’t pose a threat to humans, they do not bite or sting. It can be difficult to identify if you have a problem with moths, the first thing you notice may be holes in your clothing and other material. There are a number of other signs to look out for, check storage, wardrobes, cupboards etc thoroughly, look out for larvae cases and actual moths. Look out for what might first appear to be spider webs and is in fact webbing made by moths to house pupa cases. Look for small mounds of dust or frass, evidence that the moth has been chewing their way through items!
Moth prevention can be tricky however, closing windows at nightfall can help, as they are attracted to our lights. Also birds close to properties can be a cause, so removal of nests (if not occupied) could be another way. Regular inspection and cleaning storage areas is always good practise.
